Eustis Street Firehouse is built.
1859
[1859] Architect: John Hall. Also known as the Torrent Six Firehouse, it is located at 20 Eustis Street. The oldest remaining firehouse in Boston, the brick building replaces a wooden one on the same site and houses the Roxbury fire company Torrent Six. Abandoned by the Boston Fire Department in 1916, the building is leased to a Spanish-American War veterans post until 1954, used by the city for storage through the 1960s, and subsequently becomes vacant. Renovated by Historic Boston, Inc. as the organization’s new headquarters, it is rededicated on October 5, 2011.
